Fresno Free College Foundation
FFCF/KFCF 2011 Annual Banquet
September 23, 2011Dear friends,
It's time for the annual banquet of the Fresno Free College Foundation/KFCF, a time for Foundation members and those who want to keep free speech alive in the Central Valley to come together to reflect on the events of the past year, meet others of like mind, honor those Free Speech Award recipients who have advanced the cause, and celebrate the community we are building.
This year's speaker is Walter Turner, host of KPFA's "Africa Today,"1 a Professor of History, and Chairperson of the Social Sciences Department at the College of Marin, teaching courses in United States History, African History, and African American History. Walter is also President of the Board of Directors of Global Exchange, and is an African News analyst for Pacifica Radio Station KPFA. The subject of his talk will be "Africa's Spring: Challenges and Opportunities."The banquet will be held on Sunday, November 6th from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at "Wedgewood" (formerly "Grand Occasions, the location of the 2010 banquet), at 4584 West Jacquelyn Ave. in Fresno (behind the Costco at Shaw and 99). You will be treated to a buffet offering both meat and vegetarian alternatives, and music will be provided by Jimmy Collier, a veteran civil rights activist who worked as staff entertainer for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., rode with Pete Seeger on his musical sloop, "Clearwater," and who now lives in Mariposa.
Tickets are $35 in advance and we urge you to make your reservations no later than October 28th so we have an accurate count of how many will be attending. They can be purchased by returning the enclosed form, calling the office with a credit card, or going to www.brownpapertickets.com. For those who have not reserved a seat by 5 p.m. on Friday, November 4th, the price will be $40.
We hope you can attend, but there are other ways you can help as well. We would welcome an ad from your business or organization (ask us about a discount if your organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profits), and this year we are again offering a package deal for those who would also like to have an ad in the Fresno Free College Foundation Annual Report. We would also welcome any donations for our silent auction and raffle. Please review the enclosed materials and let us know how you can participate! Sincerely,
Sue Kern, Board Chair
